Quick Review
January loaded!
So, here's a quick review of the U.S. Championships .. while I watch several videos of the European Championships. Hard, hard life of a fan of figure skating ... especially in Olympic season!
I never had time to produce volume 2 of the peeps on the U.S. championships ... sorry!
Couples
But what shock was to see Keauna McLaughlin / Rockne Brubaker know a championship so bad. Where they have already experienced a fairly ordinary year 2009 level performance ... the U.S. championships are really erase the collective memory as soon as possible. 7th after the short program that can easily be described as a "catastrophe", the road promised to be tough to go up to the podium. Indeed, the free program had to be 'clean ' and it was not the case, unfortunately. They finished fifth in the free and total ... This was done for the Olympics ...
Amanda Evora / Mark Ladwig flatly managed to make me swallow my words when I felt that it would take a miracle for them to find themselves on the Olympic team ... Despite some program errors free, I found that the performance was very inspired. And how not to be insensitive of Evora to tears when it was official they finished second? " Congratulations to this couple who persevered after all this time the podium has eluded them ....
Rena Inoue / John Baldwin have probably just given up power for what seems to be their last performance at national championships. The triple Axel launched towards the end of the program was just wonderful ... And how not to remain indifferent to the tears of Inoue at the very end?! (Hey .. yes I'm a big sensitive!). They seemed to take the news of not being on the Olympic team with grace, which soon turned into bitterness especially on the part of Baldwin after he saw the protocols. Still, I salute ... although the possibility that they are now retired does me no trouble at all.
What about the performance along with pairs Caydee Denney / Jeremy Barrett?! That girl has so much punch and energy ... I hope it never loses it, it's really the key to the success of this couple in my opinion. Their free skate was furious, unbelievable! And how not to remain indifferent to their coach who is 2 fingers burst into tears at the end of the program ?! (I told you ... I'm a big sensitive!) It was a well deserved national title! Bravo!
Men
After seeing two superb performances by Jeremy Abbott, I blamed myself for not quite want to see on the Olympic team. Totally in control and confident, Abbott wanted more than anything to keep its national title and he did it brilliantly!
Evan Lysacek told the media he would not reach peak form at Nationals, and he preferred to keep it for the Olympics. It must be said that Spokane was the scene of one of its most U.S. Championship victories and in 2007 he had completely crushed the competition with his magnificent performance on the music of Carmen . Lysacek tried the quad in her free program, which resulted in a fall. Furthermore, we could see a third version of costume for this program .. and oh miracle - is not all black! :)
Johnny Weir was delighted the crowd during the short program, and many have denounced the fact that he found 3rd with a performance like that. The free program did not go as smoothly, and he finished 5th in the open ... but combined, it was enough to stay on the 3rd march.
My favorite small staff to whom I longed for a place for the Olympics, Ryan Bradley, has struggled in the short program to place him in 6th place. With nothing to lose, Bradley has offered a performance of the most joyous and playful their free program and made fly with the public! He finished 2nd in free, 4th overall ... to 6.12 points 3rd place. My heart bleeds ....
Despite the glitches experienced during his free program, Adam Rippon has demonstrated that it is part of the future of American skaters. This young man will truly be one to watch for the next Olympic cycle.
The future is perhaps not as rosy for Brandon Mroz which has experienced serious difficulties in the short program. He was able to climb up to 6th place after the free ... but I'm scared for the future of Mroz.
Dance
Much was expected in a heated battle between Meryl Davis / Charlie White, champions of last year and Tanith Belbin / Benjamin Agosto, the 5-time champions. The fight took place, but Davis / White had the upper hand more easily than would have believed. Their original dance, with songs from Bollywood, was a success ... And their free dance to the music of Phantom of the Opera was simply majestic. Be prepared for a long reign of Davis / White ....
Tanith Belbin / Benjamin Agosto have done their utmost to deliver the best possible dance. By cons, it was not enough to Davis / White. They changed their costumes for the free dance and I think it is a regrettable mistake. Having a theme that can be called religious, Tanith's dress is a bit inappropriate and I will not dwell on the conduct worthy of Elvis Presley de Agosto! Please return to your old costumes that were more sober and appropriate to the theme. : P
The big battle was for 3rd on the podium, which was also 3rd place for Vancouver. Kimberly Navarro / Brent Bommentre took the lead after the compulsory dance before Emily Samuelson / Evan Bates. By cons, after the original dance, Samuelson / Bates have gone before (to my great sorrow, because I hate the original dance Samuelson / Bates on music from Dixie Chicks.). The brand has played the free dance ... Performance Navarro / Bommentre was more than well. This dance left me rather cold when I saw him at Lake Placid at Skate America. But the U.S. championships, Navarro / Bommentre seemed to put all their heart and it has published widely. By cons, performance Samuelson / Bates was more than that and filled with emotions ... something that was greatly missed during the Grand Prix. Samuelson / Bates could solidify their lead over Navarro / Bommentre and thus get their hands on tickets for the Olympics.
Women
The competition for women was marked by a great event: the return of Sasha Cohen to the competition since the World 2006. If
Sasha still well filled with expectations in the short program with a performance of the most thrilling who placed second .... The free program has been one of the most popular programs ' flat' which was given to us. Almost all jumps were landed on both feet, including one that caused a crash. A performance that has sorely lacked speed, without after the sequence of steps in a straight line towards the end of the program has earned a level 1 ... ouch! This performance was relegated to 4th place ... and it was cooked the Olympic comeback ....
The championship was the spark Mirai Nagasu. National champion in 2008, when she was barely 14 years old (indeed, she could not represent the U.S. Senior World Championships this year), she had experienced several difficulties the last year. A growth spurt, injuries, a crisis of confidence ... Nagasu has undermined all who finished fifth last year. During the summer, she changed coach Frank Carroll to go .. The effects were soon visible. She still had a good Grand Prix, although it has dropped a 1st place at the Cup of China to finish fifth. Visibly relaxed and ready, she took 1st place after the short program. Despite a strong performance in the free, sub-rotations on a few jumps have been costly and has finished 2nd.
Rachael Flatt was very disappointed to find themselves third in the short program, despite a strong performance. It lacks finesse and grace, but she has the 'guts , and ambition. She had fire in his eyes Saturday night and attacked his free program with strength. Almost all were attacked with perfection, except for the combination 3 / 3 which was landed so close. But the whole years, it was a very solid performance ... despite the lack of subtlety! Rachael Flatt and wins his first national title, having won two silver medals.
Ashley Wagner had a solid season of Grand Prix. It is the only American to have qualifée for the Grand Prix Final. By cons, a costly fall on a jump in the short program was relegated to 4th place. Wagner is recognized as a skater who fights ... Last year, after a program Short disastrous who took him into 12th place, it has offered a free program and won this portion of the competition to finish fourth. This year, to fight, she fought to finish second in the free program ... 3rd overall.
Beatrisa Liang is one of his skaters who never really lived up to expectations. During the short program, she was ranked 10th. By cons, for the free program, Bebe Liang is a very relaxed and relaxed we saw on the ice. She gave a free program with few errors, but no drop. She ranked 6th in the free, 7th overall
In the radius of disappointments, we must emphasize Alissa Czisny and Caroline Zhang. Czisny, National Champion title, had a season-tooth season ... 7th in short, a disaster was free to place 11th, 10th overall.
Caroline Zhang did not appear to be present in body or mind. A disastrous short program which places 11th, followed by a much better free program to finish 9th, 11th overall. Decisions will be made aware of the offseason ...
Olympic Team USA will consist of: along with pairs Caydee Denney / Jeremy Barrett, Amanda Evora / Mark Ladwig, Jeremy Abbott, Evan Lysacek, Johnny Weir, Meryl Davis / Charlie White Tanith Belbin / Benjamin Agosto, Emily Samuelson / Evan Bates Rachael Flatt and Mirai Nagasu. Except for Lysacek Weir, Belbin / Agosto (where they won a silver medal in 2006), this is a 1st Olympic experience for other skaters.
