Finally, the season is over! Then a quick review of the World 2010 from Turin (Italy).
Ladies
Yu-Na Kim has really known the world championships sawtooth. Has it already been a bad program short? 7th after the short program, no one predicted this! By cons, it was caught in the free skate, which she won to finish 2nd overall.
Mao Asada was still ongoing ... Although she was second in every aspect of the competition. His consistency has paid off, thanks to the discomfiture known by Yu-Na Kim at Mirai Nagasu short program and free program.
I had some fears that the lack of Joannie Rochette is a bit tragic for the Canadian team and their places for the next Worlds. The representatives of Canada Cynthia Phaneuf and Samson Samson, had not a great record to level world championship. The rank that Phaneuf had known at Worlds was a 15th place last year. This was a first for the Worlds Samson. Keeping in mind the need for the total rankings of the 2 skaters do not exceed 28, there was not much leeway.
Things were worrying when Samson was ranked 29th in the short program. Only the top 24 of the short program was going to free. With this classification, Samson had 18 points in his pocket ... We had a top 10 maxium from Phaneuf.
For the short program, Cynthia still ensured, despite a slight mistake, and it ranked 8th. But The free program was a marvel for Cynthia, she did a faultless nothing less! 4th in the free program, 5th overall. I wished her a top 10, she was a top 5! The 5th place with 18 points added Samson gives 23 ... and the magic number of 28 is not exceeded; Canada retains its two seats for girls next year. THANK YOU CYNTHIA! : D
Among other skaters as I pointed out that "watch", we had some surprises and disappointments.
First, Mirai Nagasu who made a sensational debut in the short program. With a score of 70.40 points, she moved to the first rank in the surprise. Aged 16, Nagasu is really full of promises. Since its first World and found himself leading position, has lived a nightmare Nagasu in the free skate to tumble to 11th, 7th in total. But, do not rely on this poor performance to rank as a skater Nagasu crumbling under the pressure ... I think this experience will benefit him and might have some nice surprises next season. Miki Ando
experienced a roller coaster (11th Short, 3rd free, 4th in total), as Akiko Suzuki (20th Short, 7th free, 11th in total). Laura Lepisto
surely has the bronze medal the luckiest of the season. After a very good short program, which gave him 3rd place, Lepisto had a lot of freedom with triple jumps and double-processed that have relegated to 6th place. I think she may thank heaven that Ando and Phaneuf went a little far to put off the podium.
Rachael Flatt was a bit of a disappointment in this second half of the season. So she used to be strong in the jumps, sub-rotations have come to haunt the Olympics and World Championships.
In the Russian team, Alena Leonova is no longer the bubbly girl from the 1st half of the season ... Ksenia Makarova and seems poised to become the new actress that Russia seems to be waiting for Irina Slutskaya.
Carolina Kostner seemed somewhat reborn from its ashes. Unfortunately Kiira Korpi, Elena Glebova, Elena and Julia Sebestyen Gedevanishvili could not crack the top 10. Sarah Meier had the catastophe in Turin when she could not qualify for the free (26th of court). As the World
marked the end of the 2010 Olympic cycle, it means that some have offered their last performance in Turin: Julia Sebestyen (28 years) and Jenna McCorkell (23 years). The
paris open for Anastasia Gimazetdinova (29 years), Carolina Kostner (23 years), Sarah Meier (25 years), Liu Yan (25 years), Tugba Karademir (25 years) and Yu-Na Kim (19 years).
Couples
In the absence of Xue Shen / Hongbo Zhao, the title was more than possible thing for Pang Qing / Tong Jian and Aliona Savchenko / Robin Szolkowy. Despite their beautiful short program, Pang / Tong have not seen a performance as well for free. With their free program, Savchenko / Szolkowy should, in my opinion, to win a third world title. This suggests that
Pang / Tong like harvest the world title in the aftermath of the Olympic Games (Pang / Tong won their first title in 2006 in Calgary). Anyway, I must confess that the title won by Pang / Tong in Turin me less irritated than in 2006.
Dube / Davison still experienced slight difficulties in the short program, cons by the free program was good. But their combined 6th place to 10th place Langlois / Hay keeps 2 places for Canadian couples, prochainn year. The
Zhang seem caught in a tray and seem unable to cope ...
Kavaguti / Smirnov were still assured to have a second consecutive bronze medal. Mukhortova / Trankov showed the best performance at the World Championships in their careers ... which also ended in Turin. Rumors say that Maxim Trankov Volozoshar skate with Tatiana, now without a partner since Stanislav Morozov retired. For its part, Maria Mukhortova would be seeking a new partner ... and I wish
My wish was for representatives of the U.S. team. I wished them the 2 pairs are ranked high enough to allow the U.S. to retain their 2 seats. Not only are their rankings is sufficient to keep the 2 places, but Denney / Barrett and Evora / Ladwig ranked in the top 10. So much for John Baldwin ... I think he can relax and enjoy good retirement!
For pensions, I think Pang / Tong and Langlois / Hay bear watching ... Despite what they say in the media, I am not necessarily reassured Dube / Davison also ... To be continued ...
Dance
I hope very much that Tessa Virtue / Scott Moir remain in the competition, because their great rivalry with Meryl Davis / Charlie White makes it so interesting dance. Again, it was a beautiful luttle between these two couples and trained by Shpilband Zueva.
Tanith Belbin / Benjamin Agosto can leave without worry, Davis / White and Samuelson / Bates is ready to take over.
Not having seen the other hand to free dances Virtue / Moir and Davis / White, it's hard express some opinions about the performance of others. I can say I am still happy that Faiella / Scalla have climbed on the podium before the Italian public. The choice of Pechalat / Bourzat return to their free dance last season was good ... this choice should have been done long before the World Championships in my opinion ... Same with the Kerrs and their choice to return to their original dance 2007/2008; excellent choice, but should have been done long before ... their original dance to Johnny Cash has ever lifted.
I deplore the abandonment of Jana Khokhlova / Novitski shortly before the free dance, caused by an injury Novitski. Also, I deplore the fall has been Anna Cappellini in the free dance, which gave them 14th place, 11th overall.
Vanessa Crone / Paul Poirier has delivered the goods and finished 7th. Combined with the 1st place finish by Virtue / Moir, Canada won 3 seats for next year in dance.
In the courtyard of recent retirees, found Kimberly Navarro / Brent Bommentre, who can thank Belbin / Agosto to retiring from World ... They have gone to the World one last time.
There are rumors about Khokhlova / Novitski, since the latter would be bothered by serious health problems. Rumors are present for Rubleva / Shefer who leave the competition to become coaches.
It remains to be seen whether Faiella / Scalla leave this world bronze medal, and if the Kerrs try their luck one more season. To be continued ....
Men
In the absence of gold medalists and Olympic silver in addition to the outgoing World Champion, the World were those of Daisuke Takahashi. And he answered "Present!" loud and clear. He was dominant and in control to win the first world title won by an Asian man. Moreover, he attempted a quadruple flip ... Unfortunately, the jump was not enough rotation and he was not credited.
Among the substitutes who took the place of big names, there were many happy experiences and unhappy. Ryan Bradley went from jutesse free program (21st in the short program), but he was able to climb a few places. By cons, Adam Rippon had great championships for the first time in the ranks Seniors (7th Short, 5th free, 6th overall). Kevin Reynolds has largely fulfilled his contract, finishing 8th in the free, 11th in total. With the 2nd place Patrick Chan, Canada will have three seats next year. Pavel Kaska did not qualify for free. Sergei Voronov has not been very good championships, combined with problems of slats, Artem Borodulin experienced during the program short and has contributed to his crime, Russia has a seat for next year ... everything to help that Plushenko thinks the Savior of the Motherland Russian. Jamal Othman managed to qualify for free, which is better than last year. Michal Brezina
was again a revelation to these Worlds. In my opinion, he should have had the bronze ... but ... Takahiko
Kozuko was a good start with a 4th place in the short program, for any cons collapsed at the 12th place with free free, 10th overall. Adrian Schultheiss
caused a huge surprise by finishing ninth and allowing Sweden to get 2 tickets for next year. Another
surprised me again this season, Javier Fernandez ... Brian Joubert
reborn from the ashes left in Vancouver to offer a bronze medal. At least the bronze medal seemed better filled than last year.
Jeremy Abbott completed its best season compared to last year. This was perhaps not the result he was looking ... but I think he has excellent prospects for the season prochainne. The
Kevin Van Der Perren good showed up in Turin and has provided good performances to cap a great career.
Unfortunately, Denis Ten has not yet been able to offer 2 performances flawless.
Has anyone had anticipated such a meltdown from Nobunari Oda? After the problems that have marred his shoelace free program of the Olympic Games here that Oda had the worst short program of her career does not qualify for free. I hope to rebound next year.
In the camp of the new pensions, Kevin Van Der Perren finished hers in Turin. It would seem that Ryan Bradley on the way from retirement, but rumors say he might stay one more season. Daisuke Takahashi will bow out after the World 2011, Tokyo. Same for Brian Joubert, who is expected to remain until 2012, when World ls will be in Nice (France).
